Atraumatic Extraction of Primary Teeth
This course is designed for oral health and dental therapists to build confidence and refine their skills in the extraction of primary teeth.Ā It includes a pre-course online module, a hands-on workshop, and a post-course online component, coveringĀ scope of practice, primary tooth anatomy, and the principles of safe, atraumatic exodontia. Participants will explore instrument selection and technique.
Local Anaesthesia Techniques
This course is designed for oral health and dental therapists to build confidence in local anaesthesia techniques through a blended learning approach. It includes a pre-course online module, a hands-on workshop, and a post-course online component, covering histology and anatomy, safe use of local anaesthetic agents, and a range of injection techniques including infiltration, nerve blocks, and alternative approaches for all patients.
Managing Pulps & Pain in Primary Teeth
This course is designed to help oral health therapists and dental therapists build confidence in diagnosing pain in primary teeth, making appropriate treatment decisions, performing pulpotomies, and restoring primary molars with stainless steel crowns. It also places strong emphasis on documentation, case selection, scope of practice, and evidence-based decision-making.

Associate Professor Cathy Snelling
Cathy Snelling has been involved in dental education for 30 years and is still active in dental therapy practice in a āremoteā practice in Roxby Downs in South Australia, as well as a specialist paedontic practice in Adelaide. She spent the early part of her career in public dental practice, followed by a 20-year tenure at the University of Adelaide, where she developed and contributed to the Bachelor of Oral Health program. She has also taught student dental hygienists, dentists and dental assistants and values the role of an effective dental team.
During her time as a university teacher, Cathy received many awards, including a National Award for University Teaching (2013) and Australian Awards for University Teaching Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (2013, 2017). Her teaching philosophy incorporates a strong evidence base that she applies to contemporary clinical practice.
She is a Senior Fellow of the International Higher Education Academy, and in 2021, Cathy was made an honorary Fellow of the International College of Dentists. Cathy is looking forward to sharing her substantial experience and continuing passion in the oral health profession with her colleagues.
Leah Hobbs
Leah is an Oral Health Therapist working with Queensland Health and has previously worked in private practice and academic settings. She has qualifications in Oral Health Therapy, Public Health and Higher Education, with her thesis focusing on mentoring in the Bachelor of Oral Health Therapy program.
In 2021, Leah was elected as a director of the Australian Dental Council after completing the Queensland Health Step Up Leadership program. Passionate about improving oral health literacy and access to dental care, she works to ensure patients receive quality, safe care.
Beyond her clinical and leadership roles, Leah works with numerous organisations to improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations. In 2018, she was awarded the inaugural Dental Hygiene Association of Australia Clinical Excellence Award for the use of clinical indicators in paediatric dental care.
